Maryland’s bioscience industry is diverse, with approximately one half in cutting-edge biopharmaceutical discovery, the rest in research tools development, medical diagnostics and device development, and all supported by highly skilled contract research and manufacturing organizations.
Other companies are creating gene-based diagnostics, integrating biologics and nanotechnology into next generation medical devices, and developing innovative R&D technology platforms. More than 45 Maryland companies are conducting 160 clinical trials in addition to preclinical development pipelines for novel biotherapeutics.
